Planer’s debut EP, The End, came out last August, and when I wrote about it a few months later, I mentioned that the title was ironic because it was just the beginning for this Minneapolis-based indie fuzz four-piece. They have certainly kept up their electric momentum in 2026 with the release of their new single “Dial”.
“…In the end, (“Dial” is) a song about the search for connection”, the band writes on their Bandcamp page for the track. The lyrics have that sense of indie yearning to them: “If I could dial in with you, when I get sad or when I bruise/If I could dial in my bike, then I would ride it back to you”. Tied with the music, “Dial” makes me think of something from Pavement’s sweeter selections.
I’m sure this song slaps live; either way, it will definitely grab the heartstrings of anyone with a crush or even a friend who’s moved long-distance. But that theme of “connection” present in the track hits hard because of everything that’s happened in Planer’s home of Minneapolis over the past few months. Any kind of community or connection is important nowadays, and Planer wants to build theirs through their music.
Planer has a few shows this spring in the Twin Cities and over in Wisconsin; follow them on Instagram to keep up with their latest news. Take a listen to “Dial” below.
