“Max Blansjaar was born in Amsterdam, raised in Oxford and recorded this début album in Brooklyn. He first appeared on the Oxford scene in 2018, aged 15, promoting shows in all-ages venues and performing his playfully sincere lo-fi indie pop songs and releasing his early EPs through (“the ultimate Bandcamp tape label”) Beanie Tapes (Magana / Candy Says).
For his debut album, Max spent two weeks recording in Katie Von Schleicher’s home studio in Prospect Park. Here KVS and Market’s Nate Mendelsohn helped to expand the sonic horizons of Max’s elaborate and musically intricate demos. The result of the sessions are ten songs that feel somehow grounded in Brooklyn, Oxford, Amsterdam, or somewhere in between. This beautiful and beguiling first LP which sees the accomplished 20-year-old artist seek self-knowledge, distraction and comfort in our strange and unrelenting reality.
“Anna Madonna” is the lead single from this collection.”
I must confess that I have stumbled upon a true gem – a single that has captured my attention unlike any other this year. Its infectious melody, playful vibe, and catchy lyrics have left me completely hooked. I find myself unable to resist hitting the repeat button over and over again and eagerly anticipate the release of the artist’s new album. What’s more, this single is being released by Beanie Tapes, an old friend of ours, which only adds to its special appeal. With its irresistible pop qualities, I wouldn’t be surprised if this song becomes a favorite among many music lovers.
Do not forget to pre-order the new album on Oxford’s Beanie Tapes label.
