los domingueros ay siquitita single cover

Single: Los Domingueros – ¡Ay Siquitita!

Mexican-style ska, reggae, and Latino pop blend together in this new single from Los Domingueros, featuring Brittany Luna of Catbite on vocals.

Los Domingueros comes from the US-Mexico border, delivering to listeners on both sides their blend of Mexican style ska, reggae, and Latino pop. Their latest single “¡Ay Siquitita!” features Brittany Luna from Catbite on vocals and Esteban Flores from Matamoska! (and numerous other bands) on keys.

The song is in Spanish, but whether you understand the lyrics or not, it’s got tons of energy and rhythm, outstanding guitars, and instrumental portions that are bops. The intro begins with a femme voice introducing the song and what feels like a salsa beat on the drums coming in behind it. A quick trio of notes on the keyboard trigger the guitars and set the rhythm, getting your hips ready to move.

The song has a lot less ska than the previous Los Domingueros songs I’ve heard, which feels a little surprising given the ska credentials of the two guest appearances. The lead vocals are still provided by Josué Urrutia, the band’s regular lead. Brittany Luna duets in the chorus, begging the listener to sing along. Later in the song, Luna provides the vocals for a verse, leading to Urrutia joining in for the duet instead. Around two-thirds of the way through the song, we get an extended instrumental bridge that begins with a great guitar lead, which slows to a drum-dominated bop that gets you moving. There is some gang vocal chatter mixed in primarily for texture, but everything just begs the listener to get up and move.

I’m definitely looking forward to more from Los Domingueros. Take a listen to “¡Ay Siquitita!” below.
