Sometimes you and your friends do something wonderful, and say, “Man, we should keep on doing this for the rest of our lives!” And then you do anything but that wonderful thing for the next twenty years. Then one day, you and your friends decide you’ll pick up right where you left off, and that wonderful thing will feel more wonderful than ever.
Such is the case with Lomo, the London-based band which formed in the late ’90s, released a 3-track EP, played a few gigs, and then took a two-decade-long break before reuniting in 2025. They’ve released four singles since their reformation, with our featured track “Vinegar Strokes” among them. It’s a lovely indie rock romp named after a facial expression and physical act you might not want to look up unless you’re of a mature disposition. (And if you’re immature, look it up anyway and have a laugh.)
“Vinegar Strokes” sounds like the work of a group that’s played together for years, and in a way, Lomo have done just that, despite the pause. The band wanted to record a track inspired by the guitar sounds of The Strokes and the vocal style of Echo and the Bunnymen, and that inspiration shines in a tight-knit two-and-a-half minutes. Hopefully Lomo continues to put out solid songs like this and doesn’t wait another twenty years to do it!
