Humming is an Australian grunge alt-rock band consisting of 4 members: Beau, Danyon, Jedd, and Zac. They have once again drawn influence from the 90s and 2000s, blending grunge with shoegaze and alternative rock. The press shared that “Humming has found a balance between soft reverb tones and heavy hitting distortion to create a sensation of freedom from nostalgic dread.” I could not agree more, as they are combining harder genres with a softer indie rock approach. As a result, the sound is yet softer, but still hard enough to create a mesmerizing auditory experience.
They have been on the scene since 2020 and have released quite a few EPs and singles, so if you want to explore their music a little bit more, there is a lot to cover. In some ways, they are bringing the familiar sound, but also exploring how it could sound when the bands put their own touch on it. I hear a hint of an emo-ish character in the vocals, which adds another layer to the sound and makes the blend of genres work well.
I will also share the lyrics to the song below, so you can explore them if you got a little lost in the wall of guitars. Overall, I have been enjoying this latest offering from this emo grunge alt rocker from Australia, and I am intrigued to see what’s next they will bring.
Making sense of what’s left to come up next
Can’t disregard how it got here
Reach within
Your patience trembling
This soul is such a shame
Tangled up in two
Seems to
Trace unfamiliar wounds
Rid the truth may come
Back to haunt
You like it used to
Depending on those who never wanted more
Don’t believe in anything
Thicker than the water
Streams in through my skin
It leaks in place
The mind can only take
As much as it’ll take
Who’ll you depend on
Who’ll you depend on
Don’t believe in anything
(Don’t believe in)
Don’t believe in anything
(Don’t believe in)
Stay away
(Stay away)
Stay away
