Released at the beginning of the month, ‘Something Changed’ marks Hope Slide’s first release as a full band since founding member, Calvin A. Jay progressed the project from a solo endeavour, to a full five piece flourishing art-rock band. This is a band beginning again, and by the sounds of it, Hope Slide promises to produce songs that are nothing short of mysteriously whimsical ballads, passionate folk tunes, and chaotically cathartic crescendos. If ‘Something Changed’ is any indicator of what the band’s upcoming EP is going to sound like, then expect soaring classical instrumentation, reminiscent of the legendary lo-fi twee rockers, Julia Brown, and vocals that are as lovely and warm as Belle and Sebastian’s, Stuart Murdoch. It is a thrilling combination, one that I cannot wait to hear in it’s full form.
