Single: Helenor – Tattoo

With “Tattoo,” Helenor’s David DiAngelis tells a story of spontaneous permanence. “This song is about the first time I gave a tattoo on the kitchen floor of a house party in the South Shore of Massachusetts,” he explains. “An old friend was watching over their dad’s house for the weekend and had some of us over. I was living in Boston at the time and my car was this beautiful, rust covered, baby blue ‘87 Chevy Caprice I inherited from my Papa. We filled the car to escape the city and when we arrived my friend revealed they brought their new tattoo machine. They also thought it would be a good idea for me to give them a large celebrity portrait on their upper thigh regardless of my having no experience. I obliged. It actually came out pretty not terrible.” DiAngelis adds, “I have a photo.”

He continues, “The party was small, almost all old friends except for a random date one had brought. This person was probably there for all of one hour before insisting on getting a tattoo by me ‘next’ – as if this was a thing. I don’t even know if they had any other tattoos at the time, but they essentially bullied me into tattooing constellations on their arm that were referenced with a Bic pen and a low res google image search. As soon as the tattoo was finished, they stood up, called an Uber, walked outside, and then none of us ever saw them again.”

In the past, I have mentioned an artist named Helenor and shared with you some of their new singles from their upcoming album. The album is set to be released on April 12th via Mtn Laurel Recording Co., and you can pre-order it on Bandcamp. I must admit that I was quite impressed by the previous singles they released, and the new one is equally captivating. This dreamy indie pop track boasts a memorable melody that will linger in your mind long after you’ve finished listening to it. I am eagerly anticipating the release of their upcoming album, as the already-revealed singles are indicating that it will be an exceptional one.
