Single: Half/Fold – holding, without holding on

Half/Fold is a British musician, and this is a single taken from the upcoming EP. They explored the song’s theme in the press release they shared with us.

“The song is about when your loved one shuts down emotionally, and learning to hold that space for them without making it worse, coming to terms with being a strong emotional presence without feeling the need to drag them out of that feeling of overwhelm or flooding, and rather trying to fix the situation, learn to hold their space without holding on to them too tightly.

This is a more somber and moody song, expressing my frustrations with anxious/avoidant attachment and loving the right language.”

The song is a blend of slowcore, shoegaze, and even emo, and it works well together. I would call this slowgaze. Atmospheric, emotive track that will pull you in, and you will feel all the emotions the musician wanted to convey. A shorter 2-minute track, but still quite powerful. I recommend listening to this on headphones so you can fully appreciate the bass lines in the melody. The lyrics are simplistic as well, and they go well with the simplistic production. Even though the song was not rich in instruments, I still felt like it was complete and nothing was missing.

holding, without holding on is an emotive, atmospheric slowgaze track that will leave a lasting impression on you and build anticipation for the upcoming EP.

Sharing lyrics below as well.

I hear it call your name
And I see you go
Is there something I know
Is there something I want

Or I’m just holding…

Without

HOLDING ON

In that somewhere you go
That place I just can’t be
Is that you’re there alone
And not there with me

There with me
Is there something you see
Is there something you want

And do you hold me

HOLDING ON!!

HOLDING ON!!
