Diving into an artist today that is new to me, and through this one track, has officially made it onto my “Gold Star” playlist. GREEN EERIE is a solo project by Adam Vaughan, based in Cardiff (shoutout Welsh listeners), and he released his first song, “Stay With You,” in late September. It’s fresh off the press, and according to Instagram, we can expect a debut album release sometime in December.
Adam isn’t new to the scene, however, as he’s played in many different local bands, within genres ranging from hardcore punk to anti-folk. He’s carved out a unique space for his sound to live in, grow, and transform.
“Stay With You” is a hell of a first song to release. The instrumental gleams with shoegaze and indie influences, the melodies are engaging, and the vocals are dreamy. What I love about shoegaze is the ability artists have to use their voice as another layer of sound that rides the surface of the atmosphere they’ve curated, and GREEN EERIE does this masterfully. There’s a warmth to the song that perfectly complements the opposite end, and allows this natural “chilliness” or “coldness” to coexist within it.
This artist has developed a formula for melding pop song structure and shoegaze that feels like a signature all his own. I listen to a lot of music in that niche, but this breathes new life into my heart and the genres themselves.
GREEN EERIE has got what it takes and is actively showing that to all of us through this track. Check out this debut song and hop on the wagon to show your support! You can stream this on YouTube, Apple Music, and Spotify now.
