Single: goodeffort – alone, WAIT!

We all crave moments of solitude, but some of us (this writer included) require more of it than the average joe. Not because we despise people, but the obligation and inevitable guilt we feel if we ignore someone is too uncomfortable to bear. That’s the main narrative driving this single alone, WAIT! by goodeffort.

With most people understandably attached to their phones, it begs the question posed by goodeffort –Are we ever truly alone? Is there EVER true solitude to be had?

As someone with anxiety disorder, this writer has experienced firsthand the following scenario (nearly daily…):

The end of the work day has officially made its way to my reality, and I’m FINALLY alone for a few hours. Just as I’m settling in a cozy spot with a plan to dive deep into my latest playlist or picking up the book I’ve been meaning to finish reading…

DING
A text message rolls in. I ignore it.
DING
A discord message pops up. Harder to ignore.
RING
A phone call from the neediest family member I have, the third one of the day mind you, finally breaks my peace and ignites my frustration to dramatic levels.

Why do we feel compelled to answer every message, phone call, and notification as SOON as it hits our phone, and consequentially, our nervous system? In 2025, the intrusions are seemingly never-ending.

In alone, WAIT!, you can feel this previously-mentioned tension rise immediately as frustration bubbles over the surface. The intense guitar riffs, rough instrumentation, and perfect word-choice encapsulates this feeling perfectly. With lyrics like, “Oh, please just let me be”, and “I think they’re looking for me/I think they’re asking for me”, goodeffort does a fantastic job at creating a palpable atmosphere of obligation and guilt.

I can’t recommend this song enough and lucky for us there’s a video that accompanies it! Give goodeffort a listen and take the opportunity to feel a much-needed cathartic release today.
