Single: Flying Raccoon Suit – Mothership

What an amazing surprise!

Seriously, this was one of the last things I expected. Flying Raccoon Suit released a new single on Aug 5, and I was not even remotely expecting it. Their last album was released in November of 2023, and it was easily one of my favorite albums of the year. In fact, on my 2023 Album of the Year list, I ranked it as the best album of the year, so it should come as no surprise that I follow their social media accounts, and I generally have a pretty good idea of when bands I like are going to be releasing new music. And since I write music reviews, a lot of the bands I follow will send me advance notice of new music. Not this time. Not a peep from anyone until it was released, and what a terrific single!

The single is a quick two and a half minutes of quick danceable energy, starting off with a nice thick bass line, pure skanking guitar hooks, and powerful sing-song rhythms in the verses with trademark FRS horns- and a couple of nice tempo changes, with that hardcore style that Flying Raccoon Suit often uses to add a tense aggression. Flying Raccoon Suit are some of the best at giving fun skankable rhythms that get you moving before slipping the aggression up and busting the mosh pit open.

This single comes out just a month before Flying Raccoon Suit has a week-long mini tour with Catbite, so start streaming the song now so you can be ready to sing and dance next month.  They’ll be playing Mothership live at the following dates:

Sept 16, Columbus, Ohio
Sept 17, Pittsburgh, PA
Sept 18, Washington, DC.
Sept 19, Norfolk, VA
Sept 20, Durham, NC
Sept 21, Millersville, PA

I’ll be seeing them live for the first time on this tour, and I hope to see you there.
