“Dodo Museum, a two-piece band hailing from London, crafts dreamy indie arrangements in their bedroom tune haven. Their melodies evoke nostalgia, innocence, and bittersweet themes, mixing with quirky, melancholic lyrics that inspire dreams. Just as the long-gone dodo bird fades into history, Dodo Museum’s music invites you to explore a headspace of mystery. Their hazy, easy-listening pieces transport you to a lost world where hopes and dreams collide, and old memories unfurl.”
This is a brief bio that has been shared with us in the submission, providing a great introduction to the band, its sound, and the band name. I have shared it in full. This duo is coming from London, but they are initially from Hong Kong, the other from Chile, which has been influencing this particular song when they are singing about “feeling of being far from home”. They are bringing pieces of their homes to London, a cold and unfamiliar city. As I have lived in London for some time myself, I can relate to this very much. I wish I had more dream pop like this one to help me feel less alone in this feeling.
The track features also ronroco, a traditional Andean instrument, which is a natural link created to reference Chile. There is also a quiet section whispered in Cantonese to bring the other member home.
The band further explains that it is “built on just two chords, it draws from artists like Brian Eno, Grouper, and the softer edges of internet-era nostalgia.” The band continues that “listeners have told us it helps them switch off or feel less alone, and that’s what we hope it offers: a quiet space to hold onto.” The band and the song have created a beautiful, almost healing atmosphere that is yet very simple.
A dreamy landscape with beautiful, mesmerizing vocals will pull you in without notice, and you will want to listen to it over and over. I have been sinking into the song, deeper and deeper, as a way to escape a day at work when I had to push hard to perform again. Moments like this are rewarding, because I can forget for a while that I have a day job and just return to my favorite activity: endlessly listening to dream pop.
Dodo Museum creates a mesmerizing dream pop track that you need to hear.
