One man music machine Eric Schaffer (aka Del Vertigo) puts on a bit of a masterclass on his tune Melt Into The Sea.
An old track, but new to us – it serves (at least at this stage in his life) as a nostalgic reminder of whimsical times – good times in good company. He started writing it around age 17 or 18. It was eventually released in 2019 when he was around 26.
As a result, it comes across as the sound of the shoots of maturity. It feels like burgeoning responsibility and receding freedom, for better or for worse.
Initially beginning with emo-esque splintering guitars, it goes on to incorporate waves of luscious sound, and, at times, it has an almost bubblegum-like swoon to it. Melt Into The Sea turns out to be quite an impressive mélange.
Schaffer has also taken to writing and releasing music under his own name, which can be found here, and also, most recently, electronic stuff as Flawjik.
