Stockholm-based group Dag och Natt describes their sound as “dense yet airy”, and they’re bang on the money here on the new single Falling the Same Way.
With a decidedly post-punk feeling bassline paired with part jangly, part shoegaze, shimmery guitars and three gloriously characterful female vocalists (Sara, Elia and Maja, joined by drummer Lars), this is quite the combination of components. If Joy Division, My Bloody Valentine and The Sundays had a love child, it might sound something like Dag och Natt.
The band wrote Falling the Same Way “on a quiet winter day, playing together in the dark with snow outside the windows. It’s about being both vulnerable and grateful, trusting the path ahead. Like a meditation on how life moves and how others become part of that flow. A soft reminder that even if we live different lives, we all end up in the same place.” You can certainly hear the atmosphere in the tones and textures here; they’ve crafted a thing of immense, stoic grace that beguiles and intrigues.
The album this track is taken from, entitled Years and Years, is out in August and is available to pre-order here.
