Has it been a month? Right, then you can count on Club 8 to have released another single.
“Honestly” is the latest in the series of monthly releases from the Swedish indie pop legends, marking the seventh since the release of their last collection, Seasonal Echoes. Seems like we’re getting close to another full-length disc, perhaps. It’s a good model: Put out a steady stream of music, then drop a limited edition vinyl compilation of about nine or ten of them plus one extra track in order to appease the superfans and collectors.
The new single has a nice summer vibe, just in time for the warmer months and the midnight Sun: Karolina Komstedt’s voice harmonizes and layers over understated but uptempo guitars and pads with a driving drum beat. There’s the trademark tinge of melancholy in Komstedt’s lyrics, suggesting that while “Honestly” sounds like a song for a drive with the top down, there’ll be some tears floating away in the wind.
Once again, it’s another banger from Club 8, proving that no matter how many months pass, they never miss when it comes to putting out good music. I have to wonder: Do they just have these tracks in the can ready to launch once per month? Do they have a monthly appointment at a studio where they record a single on the spot? It’s quite impressive, either way.
