“Cigarettes for Breakfast is a Philadelphia-based band known for their lush soundscapes and raw, emotive, fuzzed-out performances, capturing the essence of shoegaze and dream pop greats, such as My Bloody Valentine and Slowdive. The bedroom project of Matt Whiteford, along with an ever-changing cast of members and collaborators, has taken the hearts of listeners, making waves out of the DIY music scene and onto the stage with renowned acts like Slow Crush, The Asteroid No. 4, and Day Aches, among others.”
“Solitaire is the first of three singles from Cigarettes for Breakfast’s upcoming album, Slow Motion, which will be released February of 2025. The song explores existential crisis, dealing with depression and addiction, and the doom and gloom of societal anxieties. Ultimately, life is a single player game. Solitaire.”
I recently noticed that we’ve been featuring a lot of shoegaze on our blog. It seems like this genre is gaining popularity (not only) on our blog, and I think that’s partly due to my own growing interest in heavily drenched guitars. One band that has really caught my attention is Cigarettes for Breakfast. Their shoegaze music is fast-paced and filled with mesmerizing guitar riffs that hit hard. I find myself getting lost in the waves of sound and completely immersed in the melody. I’m eagerly awaiting their new album and the upcoming singles, especially after hearing the promising lead single. The Philadelphia music scene has always been a breeding ground for great musicians, and I’m excited to add Cigarettes for Breakfast to my list of favorites.
