Single: Bleuspell – Summertime Is Over

Californian rockers Bleuspell announce their presence with their latest single ‘Summertime Is Over’. With tinges of shoegaze sprinkled throughout, the song is ironically a burst of sunshine despite its name.

Eliot Lopez’s keys lure us in before Carlos Tapia’s slightly moody vocals keep us hooked. From there, the song just kicks into overdrive, but it somehow never feels like it’s doing “too much”. There’s still this element of restraint, helping to keep everything sounding modern and easily repeatable because once you’ve listened, you’ll just want to keep doing it again and again.

With Oscar Leyva’s bouncy bass and Ricardo Cano tying the song neatly together, it ensures a delightful listen, and I just can’t help being enamoured with the band’s hard work. ‘Summertime Is Over’ makes it clear to see that the group wants to be a band because of their shared love for making music. Music will never be dead as long as bands like Bleuspell keep creating.

The ending is where the track really lets loose. Glitchy and fun, Lopez’s and Leonardo García’s guitars soar, creating unforgettable melodies that remain in your head long after the last note has rang out.

Sounding slightly like something I Dont Know How But They Found Me would produce, ‘Summertime Is Over’ marks itself as a momentous release from the young quintet.

Fresh, quirky and ultimately an undeniably good tune, Bleuspell are quickly making themselves ones to watch out for and I, for one, can’t wait to see what they do next!
