Single: aurelius xo – Television

Here is a quote the artist has sent us that explains the origin of this song:

“I wrote this song in response to a homework prompt given by Luke Temple (Here We Go Magic/Art Feynman) for a School of Song songwriting workshop. The prompt involved describing a mundane activity in the verse and using a single word for the chorus. As the title indicates that single word for the chorus is the word “Television”. The verses describe the act of (for better or worse) being transported from one’s mundane life by immersing oneself in the medium of Television. The instrumentation is simple with just acoustic guitar accompaniment. The vocals have a lead line along with multiple harmony vocals. To add color to the single word chorus and I add an interplay of interacting harmonies to try to achieve a greater emotional resonance.”

I recently came across an intriguing story about the creation of musical compositions. I found it fascinating to delve into the creative process of musicians and the inspirations behind their songs. One particular project that caught my attention is aurelios xo, which is led by Keith from Santa Monica, Ca, originally hailing from New England. With years of experience in recording, Keith has produced numerous songs that were left unfinished. However, a while back, he decided to enroll in online songwriting classes offered by a program known as the School of Song. This decision proved to be transformative as it enabled Keith to complete a substantial number of songs.

Most of Keith’s songs have been recorded using only a vocal layer and a simple acoustic guitar. However, he has recently begun to explore a wider range of sounds. Members of the classes have likened Keith’s music to that of well-known artists such as Sufjan Stevens, Alex G, the Magnetic Fields, and the Microphones. Interestingly, Phil Elverum from the Microphones/Mt. Eerie is one of the individuals with whom Keith has taken a songwriting class.

Keith has recently started sharing his music with the world and intends to continue doing so. The course he undertook sounds quite compelling, and if you’re keen on learning more about it, reach out to Keith for additional insights.

I’ve always been eager to unravel the origins of songs and understand the entire creative process. Therefore, I’m grateful that Keith has shared his story with us. It seems that we can anticipate more music from him in the future. In the meantime, I plan to indulge in the delightful bedroom lo-fi indie folk track he has produced.
