Single: airhockey – hazel

Miami indie/alt-rock quartet Airhockey are back with their second single of the year. Hazel is a blissed out dreamy shoegaze number – with trademark far-away vocals, slinky walls of guitar, persistent – but tastefully measured – percussion and throbbing bass guitar.

Whilst the guitars feel like a distinct mix of indie and shoegaze (there are also flickers of surf rock to the clean/reverby lines), there’s also an obvious post-punk undertone here, with the bassline recalling Joy Division or The Cure. Aspects of the track even remind us of our own Julian Wa (if you like this – keep your eyes peeled for his forthcoming EP – due next month)

Produced by the band themselves, Hazel acts as a precursor to their as-yet-unannounced (but definitely coming soon!) debut LP. We’re reliably informed that it will be worth the wait!
