Maybe for you Fenn is cool is a music project you never heard of, but for me, it is a dear member of the old Z Tapes family. Fenn has just released an amazing album that is basically a story about his dreams to become a pop star and about facing the reality we all have to face. For example, the second track is a 12-minute long track with a story itself. Here is what Fenn wrote about the album:
Popstar is the first job I ever wanted to have. As a kid, it was my answer when adults asked, “What do you want to be when you grow up?”. It’s a funny question to ask someone whose brain hasn’t fully developed. As you get older, your answer changes. You watch Ocean’s Eleven at age 10 and decide you want to be a con man. You fly in a plane at age 12 and decide you want to be a pilot. It’s a question that encourages you to imagine your dream life and then be disappointed when your expectations aren’t met. – read more about the album on the Bandcamp page.
This is an album we can all relate to. It is not an album full of bangers you can blast at a summer party, but it is a more personal collection of songs that goes deeper. I recommend you to set aside some time, clear your mind and listen to Fenn’s songs with full dedication. He deserves it and we need it.
I also sent Fenn our 3 questions and here are the answers:
What inspired you to start making music and what keeps you making music?
To be honest, I don’t know why exactly I started making music. It’s something I’ve done since I was pretty young.
Nowadays, I feel like those guys that go around debunking magic tricks but with music. I get struck by the intangible feeling of listening to a song I love but then this part of my brain takes over that’s like “How did they do that? How can I make something that sounds like that?” I think that impulse is what keeps me making music. Whenever I feel moved by something, whether it’s a song or a movie, I want to be able to recreate the feeling that it gave me.
What was the most challenging thing in your music (artistic) path?
Trying to get other people to care about what you make is always hard. You can spend months working on something that gets 8 likes on Instagram and that can be quite demoralising. Recently, I’ve been trying not to stress about that stuff. Just let things exist in the world and if people find them then that’s great.
What would you dream to do if anything was possible?
I would love to be able to teleport so that I’m never late for anything. I would also love to have endless money and be able to breathe underwater.
