Alan, a musician hailing from the Eastern part of Slovakia, has been creating music in the comfort of his own bedroom. In his biography, he explains that his music serves as a means to calm himself and express emotions that are often difficult to articulate in everyday conversations. By releasing his music, he hopes to connect with others who can relate to his experiences. Alan views his music as a public journal, yet advises listeners not to take it too seriously. His latest album aims to showcase the evolution of his musical style from its inception to the present day.
Despite being based in Slovakia, it’s evident that we don’t frequently feature artists from this region. Perhaps, talented musicians simply aren’t reaching out for opportunities to be featured. While I wish I had the capacity to delve deeper into platforms like Bandcamp and Spotify to explore the local music scene, the sheer volume of submissions we receive daily demands my primary focus.
The youthful music scene in Slovakia is thriving, with numerous bedroom producers crafting a fusion of hyper-pop, bedroom pop, and alt pop. These artists infuse their music with intimate lyrics that touch upon societal themes and matters of the heart. Alan’s music follows a similar trajectory, catering primarily to Slovak and Czech audiences due to the language barrier. Nonetheless, the atmospheric quality of his songs transcends linguistic boundaries. His album marks a promising debut, offering a blend of diverse genre influences and an inviting, homely vibe that resonates deeply. The production effectively captures the essence of homemade music, making it one of the most exciting discoveries from Slovakia in recent months. I truly loved it.
I recently had the opportunity to ask Alan our three standard questions:
What inspired you to start making music and what keeps you making music?
I’d say my main inspiration from the beginning to now is to show how beautifull a way to express it can be to make music.
What was the most challenging thing in your music (artistic) path?
I think it’s losing some kind of mask I gained over the years. I’ve always acted like some imaginary character i made up and was losing my authenticity until I found out who I really am and can grow as a person and musician too.
What would you dream to do if anything was possible?
Making music at such a level that I could help people with my words or financially, one way or another main quest is to help. And also do not die in some sort of corporate or 9/5 job.
