Windowhead is releasing an EP called, “Terrestrials”, on March 28th, and when I first listened, it awoke something in me and made my heart grow ten sizes bigger for this genre. When you start the first track, you’re immediately swept off your feet by catchy guitar riffs and melodies. After about 30 seconds, I could tell that the atmosphere they created with their instrumentation is something truly special.
The vocals in the first track, Ex-Terrestrials, are exactly what I needed, especially when paired with the shredding guitar and shoegaze-y undertones. Is there such a thing as shoegaze-metal? Windowhead fits that category very well and they’re incredibly talented at crafting their own sound and riffs that I would DIE to be able to play myself.
This is a direct quote from the artist’s submission and it perfectly describes this EP, straight from the artist’s mouth, “Unpredictable shifts in dynamics between ethereal soundscapes and crushing climaxes are designed to grab an audience’s attention by catching it off guard. Meanwhile, tracks such as Cat Insulin and Todd, Honey feature hooks that will bury themselves deep into the listener’s mind.”
This EP will stick with me for a long time and just adds another reason I wish I lived in the UK so I could catch them at a live show. I hope they are able to eventually tour in the US and I’ll try my hardest to make it there!
Stream their newest EP, “Terrestrials”, on Bandcamp, Spotify, Apple Music, and Soundcloud! If you’re local to Brighton, do your best to make it out to a live show and show them some love!
