Review: Imperfection Is Key by Rad Away

I don’t know what I was expecting with an opening like “Childhood” but it gave me a strange sense of longing and familiarity. Is that not what our memories sound and look like? Distant, blurry and muted? Our loved ones’ voices fading away and their voices and their words indescribable but the feeling remains?

“Colour” was also quite inaudible and I could not clearly hear the artists’ lyrics because the instrumental overshadowed their voice. Similarly, with “I will keep on trying” I was captured by the melancholic sound of the guitar more than anything and from these two songs alone, it felt like the type of song I would hear if I was falling into a deep sleep. This gave me some comfort.

“You” closes out with a bang but overall fits into the muted, melancholic and honestly quite difficult to navigate. I think having a delicate balance between being this unique and still being understandable would not take away from the impressive texture and feeling that the music has.

RadAway has since released a single  “Let It Wash Over”, be sure to check that out!
