EP: Planer – The End

Planer released their debut EP, The End, on August 16, 2025, the same day as their first show in their hometown of Minneapolis. Since their electric first step into the scene, they’ve taken the Twin Cities by storm, drummed up quite a bit of press, and have fans already saying things like “Planer saved my life” and “Planer says I’m perfect.” Bold claims from new fans of a brand new band, but after taking a listen to The End, I certainly believe them.

The band consists of Jack Mooradian and Zack Moncrieff on vocals and guitar, Matt “Bucket” Day on bass, and Ricky Frame on drums. They deliver a solid shoegaze sound on The End, something akin to the fuzzy indie sound of the early ‘90s scene. Think Dinosaur Jr. or Slowdive with an extra edge, or slowcore that still makes your heart pump and your skin get goosebumps.

Three songs make up The End. The sort-of title track “End” is reflective, almost grieving, but lush in its wall of sound and occasional bursts of manic energy. On “Paper”, beautiful chiming guitar work creates a dreamy aura around the song, with Jack’s and Zack’s harmonizing during the chorus providing a layer of sheen. Finally, “Satisfied” brings a touch of the Pumpkins, starting the track somewhat subdued and building up the energy and emotion all the way to the end.

It’s almost ironic for Planer to call their debut EP The End, because it seems like just the beginning for them. They have a few live shows scheduled for Minneapolis in 2026, as well as one taking them far across the border into Wisconsin. If by some chance you find yourself in the Midwest US while Planer is performing, do yourself a favor and stop in to see them. Like many new fans before you, Planer might just save your life as well.
