EP: Indoor Swimming – Re: Kites

“Indoor Swimming—the creative ambition of Dallas-area native Josiah Leeper—is an independent music & art project that manifests energy and rhythms from math-rock and affecting lyrics from indie-folk, and laces them up to make meaning.”

“‘Re: Kites’ tells a two-part story of communication and remembrance. This acoustic driven two-song single takes the best elements of math-rock and indie-folk to create something powerful, exciting, and memorable. Here: the hand-typed letter, and the waning anticipation of response.”

I recently came across two quotes from an artist’s Bandcamp page that struck a chord with me, and I felt compelled to share them. The artist has just released a double single, which essentially serves as a short EP, and it has been quite a fascinating find in our submissions inbox. Over the past few months, I’ve encountered a slew of talented artists, and it’s been incredibly rewarding to explore their work.

What particularly caught my attention about this release is its emo-infused sound, which blends emotional depth and musical complexity in a way that’s both refreshing and engaging. The two tracks serve as perfect counterparts to one another, creating a dynamic listening experience. The first track is a more straightforward, upbeat fusion of indie rock and folk, characterized by catchy melodies and invigorating rhythms. It’s the kind of song that makes you want to tap your feet and sing along.

In contrast, the second track is a low-key, introspective piece that creates a rich atmospheric soundscape. This instrumental journey draws the listener in with its delicate nuances and emotive layers, making it a perfect complement to the livelier first track. Together, these songs form a special duo that showcases the artist’s range and creativity. I thoroughly enjoyed diving into this release and exploring the interplay between the energetic and the contemplative.
