Sorry Baby is a New Post Punk aggression out of California, and earlier this month they dropped a four-track EP titled Skin to Skin. The title track sits as the first track on the album and enters with a blast of a constant rhythm of drums crashing into your ears. They are clean and intentional, but setting an aggressive tone leading into the guitars, which enter with chaos and their own aggression- filled with hardcore and punk sensibilities, they are immediately matched with shouted vocals.
The vocal melody is solid and aggressive, with backing vocals following in what amounts to a call-and-response style of alternating lines, adding a feeling of urgency in the brief 2-minute track that is mirrored by the aggressive tone. The track also features a short but effective instrumental bridge between the two verses that lets the song breathe briefly before kicking back into gear with lyrics that repeat to drive the themes deeper.
This is solid post-punk hardcore aggression built to play heavy, hard, and fast- a perfect track for a workout playlist. The production is outstanding, and if you’re listening on headphones, you’ll appreciate the movement throughout the song.
