Single: Left Iris x Susie Heart – Heart and Soul

The almost dulcimer-like zing of the acoustic guitar strum by itself is one of the most romantic and pleasant sounds that you can come across. Still, something about it being double-tracked and reversed makes it sound like it is trying to rewind you to a much sweeter time. An absolutely pleasing beginning that lulls you into something sweet before bursting into an alternative rock firecracker. This firecracker manages to be somehow a stylistic middle ground between 90s jangle pop and melancholic shoegaze chords. All of this is complete with some syrup-sweet boy-girl harmonies. If this happens to be your first introduction to Left Iris, a Dublin-based pop band, it is not a bad impression to go off of. I just wouldn’t take it completely as a surefire flagship example of what Left Iris does. (More on that later.)

In fact, such a song will likely leave you confused as to whether to softly headbang or lie in bed to soak everything up. (Almost like the 90s never really ended after all.) While Left Iris is normally a band that blends shoegaze sway with synthpop bombast, it wouldn’t hurt at all to enter with a nice jangle bop once in a while.
