Single: Julez and the Rollers – I Don’t Know You

The new single from the LA rockerz and rollerz is so fun, it could serve as a theme song for an imaginary sitcom.

Not since “I’ll Be There for You” (Friends), “Everywhere You Look” (Full House), or “That One Song With the Electric Keyboard and the Slap Bass” (Law and Order) has there ever been a song more born to be the theme song of a sitcom than “I Don’t Know You” by Julez and the Rollerz, a track from their upcoming album Dirty Little Rock ‘N’ Roller, out June 24.

Judging from the music video, that may have been the plan. I promise not to spend the whole review pitching this imaginary show, so here’s the one sentence elevator pitch: Three will-they-won’t-they’s happen at the same time between three queer femme singer-songwriter types who are sharing one walk-up in downtown Sacramento.

Alright, moving on: This song kicks ass. There’s a hyper-dense level of catchiness here between the saturation of the guitars and the compression on the drums. Literally every millisecond of color and tone was perfectly shaped for what this is meant to be: A perfect opening. It’s magnetic and playful with variety while not trying to remind us how smart of a composition it is. “I Don’t Know You” is fucking fun.

Great for those who like Wolfmother’s first record, Brandi Carlile’s rockier stuff, Joan Jett, and/or Jimmy Eat World. Take a listen to “I Don’t Know You” below.
