After already achieving so much in the time they’ve been a band such as gracing the same stages as Plain White T’s and securing spots at critically acclaimed festivals including Capitol Hill Block Party, Instant Crush demands the spotlight again with the release of their fabulous new single “RIGHT WHERE YOU LEFT ME”, ahead of their deluxe edition of their debut album, I’M SORRY I DIDN’T BITE MY TONGUE.
There’s a lot to be said about this powerhouse of a single, from the way that you can truly let your hair down to the explosion of sound at the chorus, where all the instruments just build up and turn into something beautiful. It’s exceptionally hard to pick just one thing about why I love this song so much.
Reminiscent of something heard during the iconic Brat Summer, with its shimmering synths and fervent guitars, the Seattle-based band has a knack for creating music that is modern and deeply relatable. Detailing the themes of heartbreak and yearning for unrequited love(“your conceited mind has a hold on me / while I bleed dry right where you left me”), it’s impossible not to feel a hint of sympathy towards lead singer Megan Cannon while simultaneously finding comfort in the fact that you’re not alone.
