We Are Imaginary is an indie rock band hailing from Manila, Philippines, that has been a vibrant part of the music scene since 2008. Last year, they celebrated an impressive milestone—15 years of creating music and captivating audiences. The band is composed of founding brothers Ahmad Tanji, who handles vocals and guitar, and Khalid Tanji, who delivers intricate guitar melodies.
Their latest release, a single titled “Pinkish Hue,” showcases a sound steeped in the influences of 90s music. The signature essence of that era is woven throughout the track, creating a nostalgic yet fresh listening experience. Additionally, the band draws heavily from the shoegaze genre, evident in the rich layers of distorted guitars that envelop the listener in a dreamy soundscape.
To give you a glimpse of their artistic vision, here’s a quote from the press release:
“This hypnotic guitar-pop track blends shoegaze and ’90s alt-rock influences, imbuing their sound with dramatic flair. “Pinkish Hue” explores the slow erosion of a love once vibrant and full of promise, now fading—along with the memories it once held.
“I wrote the entire track,” Ahmad explains. “It’s actually one of the leftovers from my previous project. When Khalid showed me an unfinished sketch with the same chord progression, it inspired me to present the song to the band. They immediately loved it.”
According to Ahmad, “Pinkish Hue” is part of a larger sonic vision the band is currently developing, and it will feature on their upcoming fifth album, slated for release in both digital and vinyl formats next year.”
As one of the band members mentioned, this new release is a preview of their upcoming album, which aims to explore a slightly different sound compared to their previous work. The duo, comprised of talented brothers, has returned with an impressive single that sets high expectations for the full album ahead. I’m thrilled to have stumbled upon this band, especially since the Filipino music scene holds a special place in my heart; I’ve been following its evolution on and off for many years. I eagerly anticipate what this band will unveil next, as their emotive blend of 90s alternative rock and shoegaze deeply resonates with me. I look forward to immersing myself in their music and enjoying each listening experience.
