From its opening strings, Monoliths takes your hand and walks you backwards through a psychedelic, yet timeless memory. The shuffling drums keep a crooked and somehow steady pace as keys and banjo dance their way in for strong, shining moments. The lyrics tell a somber story of a changing world, unexplained paranormal sightings, and a modern, cosmic loneliness. Well-placed vocal distortion highlights important lines like “We might never start a family” and “unpredictably predictable and inexplicably true”. Tractor Beam masterfully weaves together simple songwriting and extreme effects to bring Monoliths to life, and wow, what a journey!
