“I wrote Cold Read here in Lisbon in February 2024. My mom, who lives in Vermont, was auditioning for this play and we would facetime and review her script and mark it up together and I was really rooting for her. At the same time, I was sober and life was good and clean and rote and I just wanted to knock over a pedestrian to give things some color again. The synth solo at the end was this massive cathartic release for me, I recorded it about 20 times, shoved it through a guitar amp, triple tracked it, processed the hell out of it. I really had a blast making this one.” – M. Vaughan
During my time spent in Portugal along the picturesque coast, I found solace in the mesmerizing beauty of the Atlantic Ocean. The gentle ocean breeze, the warmth of the sun caressing my skin, and the cool touch of the water washing over my feet created a serene and unforgettable experience. As I relaxed on the sandy shores, I would watch the more experienced surfers gracefully riding the waves, immersing myself in the rhythmic ebb and flow of the sea.
With summer fast approaching, I find myself drawn to the stirring melodies of indie synth pop artist M. Vaughan, whose music effortlessly transports me back to those blissful moments by the ocean. I can envision setting up a portable speaker on a cozy blanket, letting the vibrant tunes enhance the already idyllic atmosphere. As anticipation builds for the release of M. Vaughan’s upcoming EP in June, the already-released singles have proven to be both captivating and promising, destined to become staples of countless summer playlists.
I am eagerly looking forward to delving deeper into the EP and sharing this musical journey with you. While I aim to provide a comprehensive review of the entire collection, my current enjoyment of the songs thus far has left me eagerly anticipating the full release. I am excited to immerse myself in the entirety of M. Vaughan’s latest work and share the experience with fellow music enthusiasts.
