“Slut Magic is an angsty, sonic make-out session from Brooklyn, New York. Over the past four years, the band has made dream-inspired indie punk and garage pop with Laruicci Records and Rock Hand Records. Slut Magic’s 2020 album, Trauma Queen was unleashed on toxic-green vinyl and WDNF Philly named it album of the year (for 2021, that’s how much they liked it).
In 2021 their live shows returned at the hottest–sexy and sweaty–venues in Brooklyn. Last year Slut Magic released their crazy takes on Toxic, Say You’ll Be There, and Dream Lover. Vaporwave clothing brand Palm Treat launched a new line of Slut Magic gear, and the glitter punks recorded a direct-to-vinyl live session at Leesta Vall Studios.
2022 is going to be full of new Slut Magic music: collabs with Tenesha the Wordsmith, Gud Babu, and Bubble Punk, plus a new album in the works. Watch out for more Palm Treat and Laruicci fashions, and of course SHOWS SHOWS SHOWS! They kicked off playing in Brooklyn, Philly, and Vermont–including shows with soul-siblings Slutbomb. This summer they’ll slide through the midwest and by fall they could be anywhere, like Mars or Jersey”
This is a nice introduction to the band and here is a little blurb about the song:
“What are the lines between reality, dreams, ideas, fantasies? What makes sense? All we know is who is standing with us by the dumpsters.”
When I read the bio above, I was expecting a big load of energy, but this laid-back slacker post-punk has totally caught me by surprise, but I love it. Take punk and make it slower and more mellow and you will get this. The song had a great atmosphere and I can imagine hearing it live among other more upbeat songs. It would stand there just nicely. I enjoyed this one and will definitely check out more from them.
