“New York duo Frog (brothers Danny & Steve Bateman) return with their fifth album “Grog.” This collection of gorgeous Indie Americana is full of the nostalgia, hope, defeat and lust that earned previous singles “Judy Garland” and “You Know I’m Down” several million streams on Spotify.
Eclectic and wildly creative, this fully realized LP veers from the gorgeous grooving funk of “Black on Black on Black” to the classic pop of “Maybelline” before “New Ro” exemplifies the “gothic and cartoonish” characteristics that songwriter Daniel Bateman describes his latest work with.
Taking its cues from 70s pop, 60s garage rock, 90s guitar music and timeless Americana, “Grog” is sometimes Jonathan Richman, sometimes Hall & Oates, sometimes Billy Joel, sometimes Steely Dan, sometimes Dennis Wilson, sometimes Townes Van Zandt…but always Frog.
“Grog” will be released both CD and digitally on November 17th and launched with a performance at YoFi Fest 11 (Yonkers, NY) which accompanies a screening of their “Kings of Blah” UK tour documentary.“
I am so excited Frog is back, it has been a while since the last release. This one is slightly different, but I love this new funky single that brings freshness to their music. I am looking forward to the full album which should be out later in November. This new single had really great energy and I loved the nostalgic, retro vibe the song was bringing. Definitely pre-order this album and start getting excited. I am.
