‘Smiling All the Time’ is the second single taken from Sunbreather’s debut LP Shine, released back in January. With the track comes a music video, a collage of moments depicting the artists’ “good friends being cool”. It is heavy with nostalgia, finding yourself wishing for those times back you never actually experienced. The song itself is a minimalist indie-folk moment, reminiscent of bands with equal amounts of emotional heft like Florist and Lomelda. It is an ode to friends and a fun summer, times at which are best remembered in simple terms, like the carefully crafted ‘Smiling All the Time’.
It is a lovely song, and an equally lovely video, things that Sunbreather and their friends will surely look back on in years to come. ‘Smiling All the Time’ reminds us to take note of our surroundings, to acknowledge how lucky we are to be surrounded by those we love, and to be grateful for all of the good times.
