Single: The Lonely Suns – Impulsive Breathing

Surprise! The inaugural release from our recently launched collection of collaborative creators – Black Rainbow Collective – Impulsive Breathing by The Lonely Suns, was written, recorded, and released all on the same day. An exercise in creativity and impulsivity, each part (guitar, bass, drums, and vox) was recorded in one take and by one man. The resulting song sounds a bit like The Flaming Lips or Tame Impala blended with The Strokes trying their hand at a bit of krautrock in a garage somewhere, and it revels indulgently and unashamedly in its own special brand of audible chaos.

The song absolutely lives and breathes – you can almost hear the freedom and release in it. It tosses and turns. It pulsates, pushes, preens, and pulverizes – all in more or less equal measure. It’s a chameleon of a piece, that subtly – almost imperceptibly – shapeshifts over the course of its three minutes and two seconds. The sonic palette expands and fluctuates and there are touches of UNKLE or perhaps DJ Shadow to the percussion, but with an overall feel of psychedelia that is at odds with comparisons to either of those artists.

The Lonely Suns (Dan, to his friends) is a one-man music machine based on the West Coast of the United States. He has a cache of over 200 songs written over the course of about 20 years that are waiting to be recorded so expect much more from him – and indeed the rest of the Collective – very soon.
