Single: Taxidermy – Impending

As a massive fan of Taxidermy, I jumped at the opportunity to cover this new single Impending from their upcoming EP called “Let Go”. I loved their 2024 release “Coin”, and have been following the Copenhagen-based group ever since.

There’s something unsettling about the beginning of this track, almost horror-movie-level tension is presented right at the start. The bass is the driving force behind this song for me, always nearing the front of the sound with its groove and tenacity.

The lyrics, “We’ve been a story too brief / A leaf falling from an aspen / For a moment my breath was stolen / Now I find myself devouring a last meal / Great gulps of care and blame / I’ll stick around until / we’re a silhouette dancing / And I’ll greet what’s impending”, stick with me as the underlying message of this song.

This track tackles mortality, monotony, and the rollercoaster of emotions that make us human in a way that feels somewhat hopeful near the end—though we all know the bare bones ending to our personal stories on this planet.

Impending starts out slow, much like our own lives, and gets increasingly more chaotic as the seconds pass. This is absolutely allegorical for the main idea of the track, and they pull it off extremely well. With a plethora of instruments and hard hits, this song is a RIDE and I’m going to be the first in line to get back on it.

You can stream Impending now on Bandcamp, Apple Music, and Spotify! Keep a look out for the upcoming EP and stream the hell out of this song while you wait.
