Exeter trio Soot Sprite are an alt-rock/indie band who also adopt elements of shoegaze, grunge, and emo and are setting the UK rock scene alight with their kinetic, heart-on-sleeve sound.
The new single “Days After Days” is in the words of the band “about facing the endless horrors of the world and remembering to pay attention to the good”. A sentiment that seems as relevant now as it could ever have been – we must remember to celebrate our little victories. It’s an anthemic, heavy – but at the same time melodic – rock song that twists and turns and builds into a wall of sound that commands your attention. It eventually culminates and blends into what sounds like a demo recording of the song and – stripped away of all its bells and whistles – it’s just as compelling as the rest of the track. A sign of a very good song indeed.
The b-side All My Friends Are Depressed reminded us tonally of the Montpellier band Quine. There’s a frantic almost desperate energy generated by the combination of buzzing guitars, pounding drums, beefy bass, and soaring, emotive vocals.
Both tracks are taken from the forthcoming album Wield Your Hope Like A Weapon, which is set for release on May 16th via Specialist Subject and is available on both CD & LP from their Bandcamp.
