“Sleeping is a Meanjin/Brisbane based indie rock/pop project started by Marcus Warren and Erik Berg. What began as a bedroom recording project has since grown into a six piece band featuring the powerhouse vocals of Lucy Francesca Dron. “ Fruit Soup” and “Brainfall” are the first singles from their upcoming EP that will explore a new direction while keeping spirit of their lo fi beginnings. Sleepings dance inducing grooves and soothing demeanour is guaranteed to captivate audiences and leave them wanting more.
Focus” poetically explores themes of losing track in life and its direction while falling into the easy seduction of not taking things too seriously.”
As I sit at my desk on this Thursday evening, I can’t help but feel a sense of relief that the workday is finally over. My desktop is adorned with a wine glass, and I am completely engrossed in the beautiful indie rock sounds emanating from my speakers. The band is from Australia, and their chill, laidback melody is punctuated by really nice instrumental parts that make me want to close my eyes and just let the music wash over me.
In fact, the track is so good that I find myself hitting repeat several times, just to fully devour the nuances of this musical masterpiece. As someone who loves discovering new bands from across the globe, I feel grateful for this hobby that has been keeping me entertained for almost 13 years now. It’s hard to believe that it’s been that long, but the joy that comes from discovering a new great band remains the same.
And so, as I sit here, sipping my wine and listening to this beautiful music, I am reminded of just how lucky I am to have this passion in my life. It’s moments like these that make all the hard work and stress of the day completely worth it.
