Single: Slake – Bonecollector

Slake – a vehicle for songwriter and producer Mary Claire and their circle of friends – is a self-described doom/folk hybrid, a band exploring the causeways between the emotional heaviness of folk and the sonic heaviness of doom.

We get a taste of that syncretism just before the final verse of Slake’s new single “Bonecollector.” This song is primarily a folk-forward approach to Slake’s genre, emphasizing the singer-songwriter’s strength through a mix focused on vocals and layered but spare guitar. Hints of artists like Hand Habits, Big Thief, and Skullcrusher can be heard throughout.

Supported by Bay Area DIY label Cherub Dream Records, Slake is poised to release a full LP later this year.
