Single: Shormey – Raw

Shormey makes the kind of music where if you are currently in your feelings about something, you are highly encouraged to dance about it.

The best description to give Shormey’s work is black hypnogogic pop. Hypnogogic soul?

Anyway, I wouldn’t quite compare it to early Toro Y Moi, but the music is often just as groovy. If you listen to her last projects, including the disco-inspired Boogie Tape Vol. 1, you’ll hear how well Shormey strikes that balance. The latest “Raw” blends the languid guitars of psychedelic pop, the haziness of shoegaze with the rhythm of 90’s house. While there are a plethora of tracks one can choose to introduce you to her work, this isn’t far at all from being a hell of a hook for curious ears.
