Car Rainbow Radio is a whimsical retro-leaning slice of lo-fi indie pop from Tennessee’s Mythical Motors.
The jangly guitars, melodic basslines, driving drums, and sunny-but-at-the-same-time-hazy vocals meld together captivatingly and compellingly, reminding us of something somewhere between The La’s, R.E.M., and Guided By Voices.
At only a minute and a half, there’s no danger of the tune outstaying it’s welcome. But in this brief time, it does exactly what it sets out to. It’s slightly psychedelic power pop ensnares and enchants and leaves you wanting more.
Fortunately, an album – Travelogues & Movie Stills – is due out on April 18, 2025 (on cassette no less!) from the good people at Repeating Cloud. Set those reminders!
