Honing into a more cinematic style, “Momentary Thrill” is the kind of song you want to listen to walking down the street, feeling your feels, as if you are the scorned protagonist in the movie of your life. Featuring strong indie-rock vibes, this single contains colors of early 2000’s alternative rock music combined with a modern indie sound, thanks in part to its music production by beach-goth duo, Toledo.
‘Momentary Thrill’ is about the inevitable decay of a relationship where two people jump in full speed ahead, feet first, but only one swims openly and fearlessly, eventually running into the impenetrable walls of their partner’s past emotional trauma.
I wrote this song a year ago when my self-worth was very much intertwined with the entirely unstable force of a volatile, hot-and-cold romantic relationship. I’ve since come to learn, along with the rest of the world, that even the things we think are the strongest pillars upholding our lives and identities can be completely fickle fixtures — whether it be our relationships, friendships, jobs, or even the very fabric of society itself. Placing too much value on what seems certain or expected is to dig your own grave — in relationships, and in life in general. But hey, hindsight is 20/20, and we all mistakenly place value on things we shouldn’t. ‘Momentary Thrill’ reflects on the unpredictable forces and events that cause us to question our identities. Though its original inspiration was a breakup, it has an even larger meaning to me now in this strange time where nothing feels certain, and I hope it might strike a chord with how others may be feeling, too.
“Most of my music is inspired by reflecting on heartbreak. There’s something almost magical about this existential hurt, and I try to convey that in my music. Even if those experiences can be unimaginably hard, I would hate for such a powerful feeling to go unheard, especially because it’s something we can all relate to from time to time.” – Jordan Silver <3
