“Will you, say your name” delves deep into the minds of Gloom East as they grapple with doubt and misunderstanding from those around them. Leaving behind their familiar hometown of Miami, Florida, for the unfamiliar streets of Philadelphia, the duo confronts the challenges and uncertainties of pursuing music full-time. This track captures their internal struggle and the haunting question of whether their bold choices will endure.“
This musical pair is currently working on a new EP set to be released later in September. This will be their second track completed in Philly. They aim to infuse the unique Philly lifestyle into their new music, and I can already pick up on some of that influence. The indie music scene in Philly is currently one of the most vibrant and diverse scenes out there. Some people are even likening Philly to the new Brooklyn, although I’m not entirely convinced. There is a big difference.
When I visited the city 11 years ago, I was already blown away by the music scene. I had the chance to see Alex G perform at a house show, visit the homes of Pill Friends and Olive Drab, and witness the burgeoning indie scene taking shape. Now, we have talented musicians like Greg Mendez making waves from Philly. It’s always been my dream to visit the city again, but I’ve been putting it off as travel costs have risen and there are so many other tempting destinations. I even had a dream to organize a Z Tapes showcase there and started planning for it, but then the COVID-19 pandemic changed everything.
Despite the challenges, I’m thrilled to see the Philly music scene continue to produce exceptional talent, and it’s still attracting people from different parts of the USA. I can imagine myself being there, attending all the shows, and being part of the new wave of talented musicians. Gloom East is just one of the outstanding acts you can discover in this thriving East Coast city.
