The Austin-based trio of Brandon Price, Logan Krupovage, and Trevor Stovall continue their slow but mightily steady ascent of releasing comfortingly sombre alt-rock tracks.
According to the band, Dress Warm “looks to take internal feelings to the outside world”; on their newest offering, ‘Addin’ Up’, it is easy to see how flawlessly they pull this off. Frontman, Price, painfully croons over an American Football-type instrumentation, with lyrics detailing the mournful acceptance of how most are not meant for something special. It is truly miserable, but with the deftness of Price’s expression (“One lap left and I think that I know who wins/8 years in a row I guess nothing’s changing), it is easy to find the beauty in the sadness.
For a relatively new band, Dress Warm are well on its way to finding a dedicated audience, one that will celebrate and relish in the blanket of gloom the band is so adept at weaving. ‘Addin’ Up’ isn’t a song for the faint of heart, but once you are able to give yourself fully to existentialism, you are afforded hearing a wonderful thing indeed.
