It is not often these days that I am taken aback by a vocal performance, so when I first came across james king’s ‘deluge’, I was stopped in my tracks. The track is ghostly minimal, with just piano, guitar, a couple of samples, and king’s ethereal voice. Harmonies overlap each other, with a soprano in the back sounding like an angelic choir, and the entire song is drenched in reverb, giving the short moment a completely ethereal air.
‘deluge’ by james king, is a gorgeous affair. It shows what is possible with often little resources but a bucketload of natural talent. This is an exciting artist, one that I am looking forward to hopefully covering again in the future.
