SINGLE: Bistro Plate – Autodog

The three piece band, Bistro Plate, have released their debut single, ‘Autodog’. With a song title like that, I wasn’t sure what to expect. The cover art shows a dog wearing headphones, an example of a genre of animal photography that never fails to make me chuckle.

‘Autodog’ opens with a delightful rush of jangly guitars and dreamy textures. The vocals are smooth and warm, with different members taking turns as lead singer. Lyrics detail the monotony of everyday working life, of feeling stuck in a place where you feel as if you’re merely working to live, not having the opportunity to follow your true passion. It is a familiar theme to most, yet it doesn’t sting any less, no matter how many artists find inspiration from the gloom.

It is hard to imagine where Bistro Plate is currently headed. With only one track out at the time of writing, it is an exciting prospect that they could really go anywhere: throw in some electronica; meander around some folk stories; groove to some happy hardcore – the world is their oyster! ‘Autodog’ is a great start for an obviously very talented band, and I think they are a group that people should keep an eye on.
