‘Caught in the breeze like an origami man’
Babe Lewis is the project of Virginia-based artist Joseph Harder, who makes wistful and psychedelic lo-fi songs that have their roots in dream pop and shoegaze. His latest track ‘Origami Man’ – taken from new EP ‘Growing Pains – is a spontaneous, straight-to-tape demo that ambles along, rolling across pastoral landscapes effortlessly. It basks in delicate nostalgia, conjured by minimal yet sweet vocal lines that breezily dip in and out throughout.
From the artist – ‘This is a cassette demo of a song I wrote with a friend a few months back. I had an old classical guitar, and he had an old archtop. We worked out a rough form and lyrics; this recording was the first time playing through the whole song. I thought it nicely caught the moment of us, sitting in his room with some old guitars, making our own meaning.‘
