EP: Very Many Horses – The Sea/The Algorithm (Better Than Me) Remixes

Rereleased a year to the day after the original launch and now with additional remixes for each song, Very Many Horses debut double a-side single treads new ground.

The original versions of the songs are here, but the stars of the show are the new versions.

The Sea is a longing lament about the loneliness of long-distance love and is lent a new, even more, touching, and tender dimension by being accompanied only by Lyon musician MRLCK on piano. The sparse arrangement almost has a lullaby feel to it and its heart-on-sleeve earnestness is dialled up even more than in the original. MRLCK normally specialises in mash-ups – you can find these over on his YouTube channel here.

The Algorithm (Better Than Me) is the yang to The Sea’s ying. The original is an almost industrial alternative rock song that veers between conjuring tense, claustrophobic, and eerie audible environments in the verses and an energetic, shout-along chorus.

The Lonely Suns Remix continues in this vein but exaggerates the harsher elements of the song adding guttural screaming vocals, splashy live drums, and additional synth parts. It takes what the original did well and turns it up to 11, resulting in a brand-new listening experience.

Both these guest artists – and indeed Very Many Horses – are part of the burgeoning Black Rainbow Collective. A digital creative community that works together for the mutual benefit of its members, with enough shared talent in-house to do anything they set their mind to.

We can’t wait to see what else they come up with in the future.
