EP: Gabriel Gifford x IPANAZAR – TWICE/LIMBS

In the new double single, TWICE / LIMBS, ever-evolving British producer Gabriel Gifford joins forces with LA-based artist IPANAZAR.

Produced during their respective time in Berlin, the ambient post-rock collaboration merges IPANAZAR’s melancholic bass chords and lamenting lyricism with Gifford’s dense, ethereal electronics, creating a hypnotic work full of unresolved tension and longing.

IPANAZAR’s visceral spoken lyrics—such as “scathing and knotted, withered and wrought”—interchange with ghostly Grouper-esque vocal drones over sludging bass and guitar feedback. The titular refrains—“After everything I’ve done that I could’ve done better… twice” and “The space between my limbs is inhibiting your growth”—hauntingly repeat, yearning for transformation. TWICE / LIMBS marks the first release from the pair since their respective mini-albums, Hailstone King and Skin Hunger, both dynamic records that span a range from delicate to fierce.

The above excerpt was shared with us along with the submissions for the latest release from the talented duo, Gabriel Gifford and IPANAZAR. Together, they have crafted a mesmerizing double single EP that evokes a haunting atmosphere. The tracks are steeped in a rich, ethereal quality reminiscent of Grouper, yet they stand firmly on their own with a distinct, experimental twist.

Blending classic indie pop with a myriad of influences—ranging from the melancholic tones of slowcore to the expansive soundscapes of post-rock—this release promises an unmistakably unique listening experience. I find immense pleasure in how these songs manage to surprise me, evoking emotions that set them apart from the myriad of other submissions we receive.

The vocals emerge gradually, much like a dense fog rolling down from the mountains into serene, slumbering valleys, creating an enchanting and almost mystical experience. Each note and lyric resonates deeply, reaching into your very bones. There’s an intriguing interplay between eeriness and enchantment throughout the music, making it feel both chilling and magical.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this short yet inventive double single EP, which is sure to leave a lasting impression.
